Orange Honored in Midseason All-America Teams
4/5/2019 3:27:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
Four Syracuse standouts were tabbed as Midseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse after leading the Orange to a 6-3 record through the first-nine games of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Brendan Curry headlines the list, garnering second team honors. Redshirt junior defender Nick Mellen was selected to the third team, while sophomore longstick midfielder Brett Kennedy and junior defensive midfielder Peter Dearth earned honorable mention honors.
Curry currently ranks third on the team with 24 points (12 goals and 12 assists). He has also caused four turnovers and collected 13 ground balls in the midfield this year. So far, the highlight of Curry's sophomore campaign was scoring the overtime game-winning goal against Duke to complete an improbable comeback.
Mellen has a team-high 12 caused turnovers this season, with 20 ground balls. He's best known for completely taking away the opponent's top attackman though, holding Duke's Brad Smith, Virginia's Michael Kraus, Hobart's Chris Aslanian among other high-scoring matchups all below their season average.
Kennedy has emerged as one of the nation's most dynamic LSMs. He has 11 caused turnovers and has collected 29 ground balls, scored twice and chipped in an assist this season. He's also been a key component of the Orange winning 60-percent of its faceoffs this season as a wing player.
Dearth, a team captain, has seven caused turnovers, 18 ground balls, three goals and an assist on the season. Another wing on faceoffs, Dearth has been crucial to the team's success in that area.
Syracuse hosts Cornell on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/Tickets, by calling 888-DOME-TIX or at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
