Four Syracuse stars were named Inside Lacrosse Media All-Americans for their success this season.
Headlined by second team honoree Nick Mellen, a pair of third team selections in Brett Kennedy and Brendan Curry and honorable mention Peter Dearth, 'Cuse tied with Virginia for the most honorees among ACC schools. 'Cuse also only trailed Penn State and Maryland (five each) for most honorees.
Mellen, who was a shutdown defender all season, holding his opponents to nearly a full point below their season average. The Syracuse, N.Y. native caused a team-high 19 turnovers and collected 36 ground balls in the 14 games he played this year. He will enter his senior season with 55 career caused turnovers, which ranks fifth in school history, six behind Joel White for fourth. Mellen was also an All-ACC selection this season.
Curry, a sophomore midfielder out of Baltimore, tied with line mate Jamie Trimboli (33) for the most points out of the midfield this season. Curry, who scored the overtime game-winning goal in a thrilling comeback win over Duke, also collected 18 ground balls and caused four turnovers this year.
Kennedy, another All-ACC selection, caused 13 turnovers, collected 44 ground balls and registered five points (3-2) during his sophomore season. His 44 ground balls was third on the team behind Jakob Phaup (63) and Tyson Bomberry (61).
A team captain, Dearth scored six goals and registered an assist as a defensive midfielder this year. The Orange's top shorty, he caused 15 turnovers and collected 29 ground balls on the season.
All four 'Cuse honorees will return to the team in 2020, with six of the Orange's starters, top-two LSMs, top-two lines short-stick defensive midfield rotation, faceoff unit, five of the six midfielders on the top-two lines and presumed return of Tucker Dordevic from injury coming back, leaving the program in good shape for 2020.
