Former Orange who have continued to shine in the professional ranks were tested at their respective national championships this week.
A trio of Orange stars made the finals at the USATF Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, while Justyn Knight represented 'Cuse at the Canadian National Championships and punched his ticket to the IAAF World Championships in the 5000-meters.
Knight '18 took silver at the Canadian Championships and earned his trip to Doha, Qatar. He took second to Mohammad Ahmed, crossing the line in 13:56.68, just two seconds behind Ahmed. Knight now runs for Reebok Boston Track Club. The former NCAA Champion in cross country and the 5000-meter run, Knight will make his second IAAF World Championship appearance this summer.
One of Knight's old teammates has joined him as well. Paige Stoner, who recently signed with Reebok, took seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The '19 graduate was a USTFCCCA All-American in the steeplechase, indoor 5000-meters, 10000-meter and cross country in her collegiate career. She crossed the line in 9:55.01 on Sunday, three spots out of qualifying for Doha.
Freddie Crittenden III was the weekend's near-miss. The 2017 grad missed qualifying for the IAAF World Championships by 0.01 seconds. Crittenden, who is currently ranked in the top-10 in the world of the event, crossed the line in 13.39 seconds. Jarret Eaton, who won the 2012 NCAA Championship in the 60-meter hurdles, finished in 13.51 seconds, good for sixth.
