
Carney, U.S. Win Gold

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario – Syracuse rising sophomore Megan Carney scored a goal to help Team USA defeat Canada, 13-3, and claim the gold medal the U19 Women's Lacrosse Championship in Peterborough, Ontario. The U.S. finished the tournament undefeated.
Incoming freshman Bianca Chevarie recorded a caused turnover for Canada, whose only two losses came against Team USA. In addition, rising sophomore Jalyn Jimerson helped the Haudenosaunee to a 10th-place finish.
Both squads got off to a slow start in the final before Team USA scored at the 8:48 mark of the first quarter. The U.S. opened up a three-goal lead before back-to-back goals by Canada cut the advantage to one. That was as close as the Canadians would get as the U.S. scored 10 unanswered goals to take control of the game and avenge its loss to Canada in the 2015 tournament final.
Carney's goal came during the offensive outburst. She finished the tournament with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists. Jimerson recorded 39 points (26g, 13a), which was the fourth-highest total for any player at the championship.
