Orange Finish Italy Trip Undefeated

ROME, ITALY – Syracuse completed its four-game exhibition tour of Italy with an 82-42 victory against Virtus Roma. Redshirt junior forward Elijah Hughes had 20 points and junior center Bourama Sidibe contributed 17 rebounds to help the Orange improve to 4-0 on the trip.
Game Format
A different format was used for this exhibition game. The two teams played four, 10-minute quarters. The scoreboard was re-set after each period.
First Quarter: Syracuse 21, Virtus Roma 7
Jalen Carey got the Orange going early, scoring seven points in the first five minutes of play. Hughes and sophomore guard Buddy Boeheim each hit 3-pointers in the initial 10 minutes.
Sidibe was active at both ends. He had seven boards in the first period and added a basket inside.
Syracuse made 8-of-16 (.500) from the field, including 3-of-10 (.300) on 3-point attempts.
Second Quarter: Syracuse 28, Virtus Roma 14
Syracuse tallied the initial 15 points of the period before the hosts finally answered. Freshman forward Quincy Guerrier got into the act with seven points in the quarter and sophomore forward Robert Braswell had six.
The Orange were 9-of-18 (.500) overall and 5-of-9 (.556) from behind the 3-point line.
Third Quarter: Syracuse 18, Virtus Roma 15
Syracuse had its closest period of the Italy visit in the third period. The score was knotted, 15-15, and Virtus Roma was holding the ball for a final shot. The Orange zone was active and forced a turnover as time wound down. Hughes made the steal and dribbled upcourt before launching a 45-footer that banked in prior to the buzzer.
Hughes made three 3-pointers in the period and had 11 points.
Syracuse made 6-15 (.400) but have of the makes were 3-pointers from Hughes.

Fourth Quarter: Syracuse 15, Virtus Roma 6
The Orange regained control of the contest in the final period. Guerrier had five points to pace the squad.
In the final quarter, Syracuse connected on 7-of-18 (.389) of its shots, including 0-of-6 (.000) on its 3-point attempts.
Notable Numbers
- Syracuse finished 30-of-67 (.448) from the field, 11-of-33 (.333) on 3-point shots, and 11-of-24 (.458) on free throw attempts.
- Hughes led he team in scoring on the trip, averaging 14.5 points per outing.
- Tomas Kyzlink led Virtus Roma with 14 points.

For the fourth straight exhibition game, Coach Jim Boeheim chose the same first five: Carey and Boeheim as guards, redshirt junior Elijah Hughes and Guerrier at forward and Sidibe at center.
