The fifth-ranked Syracuse volleyball team will play its first road matches of the 2020 season at sixth-ranked Notre Dame. The Orange and Irish will play back-to-back matches on Friday, October 2 (7 p.m., ACCNX) and Saturday, October 3 (6 p.m., ACCNX).

Orange in the National Polls
Syracuse is ranked fifth nationally, marking the first time in program history that the Orange have earned a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll. Syracuse is one of six ACC schools to make this week's top 15.

ACC Honors for Shemanova
Junior outside hitter Polina Shemanova earned ACC co-Player of the Week honors after notching team-highs in kills (28) and solo blocks (3) last weekend. The two-time ACC First-Team selection is approaching the 1,000-career kills plateau. She has 960 through 55 career matches.

The Series vs. Notre Dame
This will be Syracuse's 34th and 35th all-time meetings against Notre Dame. The Irish lead the series, 25-8. The pair split two meetings in 2019, with each winning on their home court.

The Opponent
The sixth-ranked Fighting Irish swept Louisville, 3-0, on September 25th. Outside hitters Charley Niego and Caroline Meuth paced the Fighting Irish offense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Zoe Nunez recorded a team-leading 32 assists. In 2019, the Irish tied for third in the ACC with a conference record of 12-6. The Fighting Irish finished 19-10 overall. Niego and Nunez were both named All-ACC First Team.

Last Time Out
Syracuse swept three-time defending ACC champion Pittsburgh last weekend, winning a five-set thriller on Friday and sweeping Pitt in straight sets on Saturday. Shemanova tallied 28 kills while Elena Karakasi recorded 87 assists in the two ACC matches. It marked the first time Syracuse had beaten Pittsburgh since 2015.
