Taylor Named ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse goalkeeper Syd Taylor has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 12-18.
Taylor earns this honor after going 1-1 in ACC games while averaging one goal against during those contests. Taylor is also averaging a 0.677 save percentage and 1.57 goals allowed per game this season, the best of her career. Taylor and the Orange bounced back after the 1-0 loss to UNC on Friday with a 2-1 win on Sunday against Wake Forest. The 'Cuse defense, led by Taylor, was dominant over the two-game stretch denying opponents scoring opportunities on 12-of-13 penalty corners.
This is the first time Taylor has earned the ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award and the second time a member of the Orange field hockey team has won an ACC Player of the Week award during the 2020 season. Midfielder Florine van Boetzelaer was named Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 5 -11.
Syracuse is 3-3 overall and 2-2 in ACC play in 2020. The Orange complete their regular season with an ACC matchup against Louisville on Oct. 30. The first round of the ACC Tournament is Nov. 5 and is followed by the semifinals and final on Nov. 6 and Nov. 8, respectively.
