BC Comeback Spoils Root Goal
10/22/2020 8:02:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Junior Meghan Root scored her sixth career goal in the first half to give Syracuse (0-6, 0-6 ACC) an early 1-0 advantage but visiting Boston College (1-5, 1-5 ACC) rallied with three unanswered goals and held on for a 3-1 triumph at the SU Soccer Stadium.
ORANGE FINDÂ THE NET FIRST
Root scored the first goal of the season for the Orange off a pass from freshman Hannah Pilley to give 'Cuse an early 1-0 lead. Root, an Arcade, N.Y. native, was the squad's leading scorer a season ago. She finished the contest with a team-best three shots. Pilley, a forward from Auckland, New Zealand, recorded her first career assist for her cross to Root.
Shannon Aviza added two shots for the Orange to be one of six Orange players to record at least one shot in the contest.

FROM COACH NICKY ADAMS
"It (Meghan Root's) was a fantastic goal. It was a great transition and it was everything that we have been working on.
"I'll watch the game film to see where we can sharpen up. We are going to continue to focus on our width defending and our box marking. The other thing that we have to be better at is clearances."

EAGLES MATCH ORANGE
Forward Jenna Bike scored off a penalty kick to knot the game at 1-1 with 20 minutes remaining in the first half. Bike entered the game leading Boston College in goals this season, and she extended her total to three after the PK.
Â
With just over four minutes to go in the first half, BC midfielder Laura Gouvin found the back-left corner of the net to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead heading into the break. The late-half goal for Gouvin was the first in the freshman's career at Boston College.
Â
Emily Knous scored after rebounding a second-half penalty kick to stretch BC's lead to 3-1.Â
PROULXÂ MATCHES CAREER-HIGH
Syracuse goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx continued her dominance in net for the Orange with 14 saves on the night. The total matches her career-high set just one week ago against #1 North Carolina. The 14-stop performance marked Proulx's third game this season with double digit saves.
BC EXTENDSÂ SERIES LEAD
With its win on Thursday night, Boston College now holds a record of 10-4-2 all-time against Syracuse. Despite the home loss, the Orange are still 4-2 all-time against the Eagles at SU Soccer Stadium.
