The eighth-ranked Syracuse volleyball team lost in straight-sets at ninth-ranked Louisville on Friday night. Polina Shemanova paced the Orange (2-3, 2-3 ACC) with 10 kills and six digs. Louisville's Aiko Jones led the match with 11 kills. Syracuse and Louisville (3-1, 3-1 ACC) will play again in Louisville on Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. (ACCNX).
In the first set, Louisville never trailed and won 25-14. Shemanova led all hitters with six first-set kills. The Cardinals won the second stanza, 25-12. Sophomore Abby Casiano notched her 100th career kill in the set. The Orange jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the third set, but the Cardinals battled back and forced three ties during the set. With the score knotted at 15, UofL's Anna Stevenson's sixth kill of the match gave the Cards a 16-15 lead to spark the three set victory.
One Away From History
Shemanova's 10 kills increased her career total to 999. She will join 16 other Orange student-athletes in the 1,000-career kills club with her next successful attack.
The Series vs. Louisville
The Cardinals lead the series, 24-4. Saturday's match will be the 29th in the series.
