
Orange Tennis Signs Two Elite Players

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse head women's tennis coach Younes Limam has announced the addition of Viktoryia Kanapatskaya and Maria Ines Fonte to the Orange program for the 2021-22 season.

"We are very happy to welcome Ines and Viktoryia to the 'Cuse family," Limam said. "In addition to having impressive tennis backgrounds, they are both wonderful individuals and have strong work ethics that will help them succeed at SU. They will make a big impact on our already established team."

Kanapatskaya has an International Tennis Federation (ITF) career-high ranking of No. 24 and reached a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) high of 11.53. In addition, she has been ranked as high as No. 700 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings in singles. Kanapatskaya, a native of Belarus, placed first in the 2019 team championship in Europe and placed second in doubles in the 2019 closed championship.

Fonte has won national titles at the U12, U14, U16 and U18 levels. She won this year's singles and doubles titles at the the Portuguese U18 national championship. Fonte won the ITF Junior J3 championship and has represented Portugal in the Fed Cup for the last three years. She has WTA career-high rankings of No. 823 in singles and No. 670 in doubles. Fonte reached a career-best UTR of 11.18.

The Orange are coming off an 8-3 record last spring before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.
