
Former Orange Volleyball Standout Carrie Urton McCaw Passes Away

The Syracuse Athletics family is mourning the passing of former Orange volleyball student-athlete Carrie Urton McCaw '98. A standout athlete and student at Syracuse from 1994-97, McCaw passed away yesterday after an automobile accident. She was travelling to a club volleyball tournament in Kansas City along with her daughter, Kacey, and Lesley Prather and her daughter, Rhyan.

A team captain as a senior, McCaw earned All-BIG EAST Academic Team honors and was a member of the Syracuse University Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester. She left her mark on the Orange record book, setting the Syracuse record for matches played in a season and is second in career matches played. McCaw ranks third on the Syracuse all-time assists record and is ninth in career digs. The Orange won 85 matches with McCaw in the lineup from 1994-97.

McCaw graduated from Syracuse's Whitman School of Management with a degree in managerial law and public policy and a minor in political science. She spent one year as an assistant volleyball coach at Rutgers before starting her career at Ice Miller LLP as where she spent the past 20 years as a practice group specialist in their collegiate sports practice conducting athletics department operations and programmatic reviews. In 2002, she earned her Master of Science in management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

A native of Louisville, McCaw graduated from Assumption High School in 1994 where she was a volleyball and basketball letterwinner. McCaw and her husband, David, have four children. The daughter of David and Patty Urton, McCaw has two brothers, Lance and John.
