
Hughes To Enter NBA Draft Process

First-team All-ACC forward Elijah Hughes has announced his plan to enter the NBA Draft process this spring. Hughes used twitter to to inform Syracuse fans of his decision.
Hughes is coming off a season that saw him lead the ACC in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game. He also won conference statistical crowns for points (609), field goal attempts (465) and minutes played (1,175:11). Hughes scored in double digits in 30-of-32 contests. He topped 20 points 15 times (including one 33-point effort).
"I want to thank my family, close friends, teammates throughout the years, and coaching staff for supporting me throughout my basketball career," Hughes said. "I cannot thank the Syracuse community and fans enough for embracing me and making me feel welcomed and comfortable. You guys believed in me from the jump and I will be forever thankful for that. I plan to enter the NBA Draft process and try and fulfill my childhood dream. I would like to personally thank Coach Boeheim for believing in me. Thank you for everything and I will always BLEED ORANGE."
He was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the United States Basketball Writers of America (USBWA) all-district teams. Hughes was on the Julius Erving Small Forward Award watch list during the course of the campaign.

Hughes has not yet signed with an agent. New NCAA rules allow him to sign with an NCAA certified agent and return to school, if he chooses.

He began his college career at East Carolina. Following one season with the Pirates, he transfered to Syracuse. After sitting out one year as a transfer, he has been a mainstay in the lineup for the past two campaigns. Hughes has been with the first string for all 66 games during that time. The Orange earned an NCAA Tournament berth last year and had advanced to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament this season when the corona virus pandemic caused the college basketball postseason to be canceled.the love is real, it's genuine.
