Porter Announces Intent to Return

Senior netminder Drake Porter turned in an All-American season - albeit a shortened one - in 2020. Now he'll be seeking an opportunity to run it back.

Porter, a two-year starter who garnered All-ACC honors in 2019 and was named an Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American and Tewaaraton Award Watch List member this season, will return to the Orange in 2021. His decision comes following the NCAA's ruling that spring sport student-athletes impacted by their seasons being halted due to COVID-19 could retain their eligibility from the year.

He's the second member of the Orange to announce his intent to return.

PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED:
Syracuse finished 2020 with the fifth-best faceoff win percentage in the country. In 2021, the group responsible will remain intact.

Senior Danny Varello announced that he'll be taking the opportunity to pursue a fifth year at Syracuse, following the NCAA's ruling that spring sport student-athletes impacted by their seasons being halted due to COVID-19 could retain their eligibility from the year.

Individually, Varello finished 12th-nationally in faceoff percentage, winning over 63-percent of restarts. The senior split time with junior Jakob Phaup (.679) and Nate Garlow (6-of-6), to help the Orange finish the shortened 2020 season winning over two-thirds of faceoffs.

The other player to announce his decision to date was Nick Mellen. Already a fifth-year senior, the two-time All-American has elected not to pursue a sixth season in Orange.
