Women's Soccer Begins Fall Prep

A little rain didn't stop the Syracuse women's soccer team from getting its 2020 preseason practice underway. Second-year coach Nicky Adams just moved the squad from the outdoor practice fields to the friendly and dry confines of Manley Field House.
The Orange reported to the workout in masks, a group response to the current pandemic. After an introductory message from Coach Adams to the team, the squad began preparation for a fall campaign.
Syracuse's 2020 edition features captains Kailee Coonan and Kate Hostage, each a redshirt junior, and senior Shannon Aviza. Coonan and Hostage will both roam the midfield, while Hostage should also see time at forward. Aviza gives the Orange experience at the defensive end of the pitch.
Other top returning players include junior forward Meghan Root, who led last year's group in scoring with three goals and two assists, and senior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx, who played every minute of all 16 games in 2019.
Manley Field House, which was originally constructed as an indoor practice facility for football in the late 1950s, provided the Orange with near-perfect conditions on field turf for the first practice.
