SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Natalie Novotna, a native of Vysoka nad Labem, Czech Republic, joins the Syracuse tennis program this season after transferring from Virginia Tech head coach Younes Limam announced on Thursday, Sept. 17. Novotna played for the Hokies the past four seasons and is taking advantage of the NCAA's ruling that spring sport student-athletes who had their seasons impacted by COVID-19 to granted eligibility relief.
Â
"We are thrilled to add Natalie to our team," Limam said. "She is an accomplished player and her past results speak for themselves, but more importantly she is a great person with tremendous work ethic and commitment to excellence. We cannot wait to have her represent the Orange."
Â
Novotna played in the No. 1 singles spot for the Hokies during last spring's shortened season. In addition, she teamed with Shene Disbergen for Virginia Tech's No. 1 doubles pair. She helped the Hokies to a 7-7 record when the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Â
As a sophomore for the Hokies, Novotna was named to the All-ACC Second Team and won the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship. She was also a qualifier for the NCAA Singles Championship and ITA Nationals, finishing the year ranked No. 52 overall. Novotna was named to the All-ACC Third Team, while also being named an ITA Atlantic Region Player to Watch in her freshman campaign.
