9/4/2020 11:05:00 AM | Women's Soccer
The 2020 women's soccer schedule, pared down due to the national pandemic, has been released by Syracuse Athletics.Â
The nine-game slate includes matchups with eight different Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents. Five of the matches will take place in the SU Soccer Stadium while four are road encounters.
Syracuse opens the campaign with consecutive road games at Pittsburgh (Sept. 17), Louisville (Oct. 1) and Notre Dame (Oct. 4). The Panthers were 5-10-3 overall last season while Louisville was 13-5-2 and Notre Dame finished 11-8-2. Both the Cardinals and the Irish played in the ACC and NCAA tournaments in 2019.
The Orange home opener features perennial national power North Carolina on Oct. 15. The Tar Heels were 24-2-1 in 2019 and narrowly missed on the NCAA Championship, falling in penalty kicks to Stanford.
Duke comes to Syracuse on Oct. 18. The Blue Devils made the NCAA Tournament and ended up 9-4-7 last fall.
The four-game home stand finishes with Boston College (Oct. 22) and Pittsburgh (Oct. 25). The Eagles began last season 7-0-1 before faltering and registered an 8-8-2 final mark.
The last October match for the Orange occurs Oct. 29 at Miami. The Hurricanes were 6-9-2 a year ago.
The final regular-season tilt has Syracuse hosting Virginia on Nov. 1. The Cavaliers lost in the ACC Championship game to North Carolina, 2-1 in two overtimes, and picked up an NCAA Tournament victory in a 17-2-3 campaign.
The ACC Tournament will be an eight-team affair and is scheduled for Nov. 10, 13 and 16 in Cary, N.C.
Syracuse Athletics remains committed to doing everything it can to support and protect the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, our staff and the campus and Syracuse communities. All decisions will be science-based and informed by public health guidance as provided by county, state and public health officials. If fans are permitted to attend games – in some capacity – Syracuse Athletics will announce plans for spectators to secure admission to the events. Fans will be required to sit in their socially-distanced seat locations and wear a face covering.Â
