
Archimede, Norheim Selected in MLS SuperDraft

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse senior forward Luther Archimede and senior defender Sondre Norheim were selected in the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft held on Thursday, Jan. 21. Archimede was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in the first round with the No. 13 overall pick, while Norheim went in the third round to Nashville SC.

It marks the seventh consecutive year that the Orange has had at least one player picked in the first round.

Archimede played two seasons at Syracuse. He played in 17 matches in his first year with the Orange, making five starts. Archimede tied for third on the team in goals with four, one of which came against Rhode Island in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe native also added an assist for nine points.

This fall, Archimede started all four matches in which he played and led the team with five shots on goal.

Norheim is a four-year starter in the back for Syracuse. During his career, he has helped the Orange record 13 shutouts. Norheim, a native of Bryne, Norway, has also contributed on the offensive end, posting 10 goals, including a career-high five in 2018.

Syracuse has now had 10 first-round selections in the MLS SuperDraft since 2015. This year's first round was dominated by players from the ACC as the top five picks and seven of the first 13 were from member schools.
