The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will be captained by five players this season, three of which were previously captains, and all of whom have All-America recognition in their career.
Redshirt-senior SSDM Peter Dearth, redshirt-junior midfielder Brendan Curry and redshirt-senior midfielder Jamie Trimboli, all captains of the 2020 squad, will be captains again this season. They'll be joined by sixth-year attackman Stephen Rehfuss and redshirt-senior goaltender Drake Porter in leading the program this year.
Â
Dearth, who was also a captain as a junior in 2019, becomes the first three-time captain in program history. Curry continues his family legacy of leadership at SU, after his father Todd was also a two-time captain for the Orange in 1986 and 1987.
Curry enters this season having been named a preseason first team All-American by both US Lacrosse Magazine and the USILA. The Baltimore, Maryland native is a two-time All-American and has twice been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He has registered a point in 21-straight games and started 29-straight games heading into this year.
Porter was also a preseason first team All-American selection by both of those publications. He is the first 'Cuse netminder to be the presumptive starter for three-straight seasons since John Galloway. Porter enters 2021 having led the ACC in save percentage in back-to-back seasons.
Dearth is a two-time All-American and one of the nation's top defensive middies. He enters his final season at SU with 48 games played and 19 points, while causing 21 turnovers and picking up 73 ground balls.
Trimboli is also a two-time team captain, who led all midfielders in goals per game last season in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. A three-time All-American, Trimboli enters 2021 with 99 career points. A Tewaaraton Award Watch List member last season, Trimboli has played in 50 career games with 75 goals at Syracuse.
Rehfuss is one of the most productive feeders in program history, entering his final season at Syracuse just seven assists shy of breaking into the top-10 all time at 'Cuse. He has led the team in that category in each of the past three seasons and has 132 career points. Rehfuss was also last year's recipient of the Doris Soladay Award, which is Syracuse Athletics' highest honor.
