This Week in Syracuse Softball: Orange Open the Season Thursday

Softball season officially begins for Syracuse when the Orange take the field in Chapel Hill, N.C. this weekend against Notre Dame and North Carolina. It's been 347 days since 'Cuse last played a game (March 8, 2020) before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the NCAA to cancel the remainder of the 2020 season. Head coach Shannon Doepking enters her third season with the Orange who look to build off the momentum from 2020's shortened 10-10 campaign.
Syracuse will play a three-game non-conference series against Notre Dame to start the 2021 season. The Orange and Irish face off for a double header on Thursday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at G. Anderson Softball Stadium on the campus of North Carolina and complete the series Friday with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
The Orange then face North Carolina for a three-game non-league set with a double header scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. before completing the opening weekend on Sunday, Feb. 21 with an 11 a.m. game against the Tar Heels. Last year, Syracuse took two of three games from UNC in what would be the final series of the 2020 season.
All three games against UNC will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) through the ESPN App.
