ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore Noah Singelmann scored in the 12th minute to give Syracuse an early lead, but UAlbany answered in the 85th minute as the teams played to a 1-1 tie in men's soccer action on Friday, February 19.
Â
"We started well and had a good first half," Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre said. "Give credit to Albany. They got on top of the game in the second half and imposed themselves. It took us a while to catch up. We're disappointed we didn't get the road win, but the good thing is we're right back at it on Tuesday."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second straight game, Syracuse (1-3-3) took a lead in the first half. Junior Hilli Goldhar worked the ball up on the left side and crossed the ball into the box where he connected with Singelmann, who was making a late run toward goal from the midfield. Singelmann buried his shot for his second goal of the season.
Â
The Orange held on to their lead until the 85th minute when Adam Aoumaich scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 1-1. Syracuse was the more dangerous team in the overtime sessions but couldn't score the golden goal. Senior Sondre Norheim hit the crossbar with his shot in the 105th minute, and senior Simon Triantafillou's follow-up was saved by UAlbany's Carlos Tofern.
Â
NOTES
Syracuse held a slight advantage in shots, 9-8, and earned seven corners to four for the Great Danes (0-0-1). Orange goalkeeper Russell Shealy posted three saves.
Â
Singlemann now has a goal and two assists in the first two matches of Syracuse's spring season. He leads the team in points (7) and assists (3).
Â
UP NEXT
The Orange travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Bowling Green on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
