THE GAME
- Syracuse hosts Virginia to open the ACC play, their first league game since the 2019 season.
- The game will be broadcast on ACC Network with Syracuse alums Anish Shroff '04 and Paul Carcaterra '97 on the call. Brian Higgins '04 and Kyle Fetterly '09 will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
THE VIRGINIA SERIES
- Syracuse and UVA have squared off in 36 meetings and the series is nearly as close as can be.
- The all-time series is tied 18-18. The Orange have scored 466 goals, UVA has netted 466 as well. The game has been decided by one goal on 17 occasions - including five-straight meetings. Seven of those one-goal games went to overtime, including the last meeting  (15-14 UVA in 2019).
- Prior to losing the 2019 matchup in the Dome, 'Cuse hadn't been beaten by the Cavaliers in the Carrier Dome since 2009.
CONFERENCE KINGS
- The Orange have finished with a .500-or-better record against conference opponents for the last five seasons (2015-2019, the Orange did not play a conference game in 2020).
- Since joining the ACC, Syracuse boasts a 16-9 record in regular season league games and also has two ACC Tournament titles. Duke holds the second-best mark in that period at 15-10. Notre Dame (13-12), North Carolina (12-13) and Virginia (5-20) make up the remaining records.
- 'Cuse was 4-0 in league play in the 2017 and 2018 seasons and has never finished worse than 2-3 2014, its inaugural season in the league. The Orange have been .500 or better each year since.
- For that dominance, head coach John Desko has become the first coach in the history of the league to win ACC Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in four-straight (2015-18) seasons. No other coach has done so even three times.
ORANGE IN BOUNCE-BACK GAMES
- Head coach John Desko has had tremendous success in getting the Orange back on track following a loss.
- 'Cuse is 48-24 in games following a loss during a season under Desko (this record does not include the season opener following season-ending losses).
- Under Desko, 'Cuse has only had 13 "losing streaks" (two or more consecutive losses) in 22 seasons.
A WIN AGAINST VIRGINIA WOULD...
- Be the program's 918th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve Syracuse to 19-18 against Virginia all-time.
- Extend Syracuse's ACC-best record to 17-9 in league games since joining the conference for the 2014 season.
- Improve head coach John Desko's record to 49-24 all-time in games following a loss.
RISING IN THE RANKS
- Stephen Rehfuss moved into 17th in career assists at Syracuse with his first assist of the 2021 season vs. Army.
- Six more helpers will move him into the top-10 all time at Syracuse.
- At the pace he was at last season (3.6 assists per game), he'd have tied Kevin Rice (44 in 2014) for 10th-most assists in a single season by the end of the regular season.Â
POINT STREAKS
- Junior midfielder Brendan Curry extended his consecutive games with a point streak to 22Â games vs. Army, a mark that ranks 32nd nationally.
- His streak is fifth in the ACC. Charlie Bertrand (Virginia) has the nation's longest streak at 59 games. He transferred in from Merrimack this season.
