Syracuse Beats Duke in ACC Opener

The Syracuse field hockey team improved to 3-0 this spring with a 2-1 road win over #14 Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener Saturday afternoon. The Orange were backed by goals from Pluen Lammers and SJ Quigley in the third win over the Blue Devils during the 2020-21 season.
No. 9 Syracuse took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Lammers tipped in a shot by Eefke van den Nieuwenhof on a penalty corner in the 14th minute.Â
SJ Quigley tipped in a shot by Romee Joosten in the third quarter, to make it a 2-0 game. Duke got one goal back when Darcy Bourne scored when she tapped in a blocked shot.Â
Syracuse out shot Duke 9-7, including a game-high six shots in the third quarter. Emily Streib made two saves in the win.
The Orange return to action Friday, April 2, when they host Wake Forest at 10:45Â a.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
