5 Things to Know: Syracuse vs. North Carolina
4/14/2021 8:56:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
Syracuse hosts No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday in the Dome. Here's five things to know about the matchup:
1. Full House
Syracuse will welcome the general public back to the Dome for the second time in over a calendar year, following last week's women's lacrosse game which also had fans.
All available general public tickets have been purchased and there will be no day of game sales. If you did purchase a ticket, there are COVID testing or vaccination protocols all spectators must follow, which you can see here:

2. Senior Salute
Syracuse will honor 18 seniors (16 players and two managers) prior to Saturday's game. As in past years, this is not necessarily a definite indicator of it being a player's final home game in an Orange uniform as some players elect to walk with their class or in their graduation year even if they have a year of eligibility remaining. The players partaking in Senior Day festivities will be: Brett Barlow, Jacob Buttermore, Peter Dearth, Nick DiPietro, Nate Garlow, Nate McPeak, Grant Murphy, Jonathan Partamian, Drake Porter, Stephen Rehfuss, Sam Schluter, Spencer Small, Jerry Staats, Jamie Trimboli, Danny Varello and Mitch Wykoff. Team managers Jesse Altmeyer and James Rodgers will also be honored for their work as part of the program.
3. Efficiency on Offense
Stephen Rehfuss enters Saturday's game as one-of-three players nationally to have 20-or-more goals and a shooting percentage of 50-percent or better. Rehfuss (20 goals on 40 shots (.500)) is joined by Maryland's Dylan Maltz (27 goals/.628 shooting percentage) and Richmond's Dalton Young (20 goals/.500 shooting percentage).
4. Against Carolina
This is the 28th meeting between the two programs, with Syracuse owning an 18-9 advantage in the series.
The Orange and Tar Heels have played to a one-goal decision in four of their last five meetings. In 2017, Paolo Ciferri knotted the game late so Sergio Salcido could win it in OT at Fetzer Field in the 2017 regular season. The teams met in the 2017 ACC Tournament as well, where Carolina led by nine at halftime before the Orange came roaring back with eight unanswered in the third quarter, but fell short 16-15. Last time Carolina visited the Dome in 2018, Brendan Curry scored twice in the final 1:34 to erase a two-goal deficit and then assisted Brendan Bomberry's overtime winner. Finally, after a lackluster regular season meeting in 2019 when the Orange won by three, Carolina defeated the Orange in the ACC first round 11-10 at Dorrance Field.
5. Tough Slate Ahead
Syracuse will play three-straight games against teams ranked in the top five beginning this weekend. After hosting No. 5 North Carolina, Syracuse has rematches from its earlier ACC battles scheduled with No. 3 Virginia and No. 2 Notre Dame, both of which will be on the road.
