Syracuse Associate Head Coach Adrian Autry is one of 26 individuals who have been selected to participate in the TopConnect Leadership Institute, which is scheduled to begin May 18.
The TopConnect Leadership Institute identifies the top basketball assistant coaches and senior level athletics administrators in the United States and provides them with the necessary skills and relationships to assist them on their career path.
Autry was a standout performer at Syracuse from 1990-94. He accumulated 1,538 points in his collegiate career and still ranks among Syracuse's career leaders in career assists (631, fifth) and career steals (237, sixth). Following a professional playing career that featured 11 seasons overseas, Autry embarked on a coaching career. He was director of operations on the men's basketball staff at Virginia Tech and then an assistant coach before his hiring at Syracuse as an assistant coach in 2012. In 2017, he was promoted to associate head coach.
Autry works primarily with Syracuse's forwards. Two of his recent pupils, Oshae Brissett and Jerami Grant, are playing in the NBA. Autry is involved in all aspects of the Syracuse program as a member of Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim's staff.
This year's 26 participants include 13 coaches and 13 administrators. The program is conducted over four months and features symposiums with leadership discussions, activities and networking opportunities. Topics and sessions will include mock interviews, branding, crisis managgement, Myers Briggs evaluation and education, and an in-depth look at the search process.
TopConnect Leadership Institute participants will be awarded a leadership certificate of achievement from East Tennessee State University upon the completion of the program.
Â
TopConnect continues to pave the way in development of the next generation of leaders in college athletics. Since its inception in 2018, fourteen attendees have been hired as Athletic Director, Head Men's Basketball Coach or Head Women's Basketball Coach.
