The Syracuse softball season came to an end in Wednesday's first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament. The No. 8 seed Orange lost to No. 9 seed Georgia Tech, 6-0, in Louisville, Ky., and finish the season 20-24 overall and 12-20 in the ACC.Â
Alexa Romero gave up a lead off home run in the top of the first to Georgia Tech's Breanna Roper but escaped a bases loaded threat without any further damage. Romero struck out four batters over the next four innings, including three-straight strikeouts to end the second inning and carry into the third. She ran into trouble in the top of the sixth when she walked three-straight batters with one out. The Yellow Jackets scored four runs one back-to-back hits to extend its lead to 5-0.Â
Lindsey Hendrix came in to relieve Romero with the Orange down five runs. She got the second out on a groundout but a single by Huckabay down the right field line added an insurance run for the Yellow Jackets to lead 6-0 through six innings.Â
Gabby Teran was the only Orange to reach base in the loss. She was hit by a pitch in the first inning and reached on an error the second time through the Syracuse lineup.Â
Georgia Tech's Blake Neleman earned the win in the circle striking out nine en route to throwing the fifth no-hitter in ACC Tournament history.Â
The Orange will bid farewell to seven seniors and grad students who will earn their degrees from Syracuse University at the end of the month.Â
