Syracuse men's soccer and head coach Ian McIntyre announced the team award winners on Friday, May 21.
Â
Sophomore Abdi Salim earned the team MVP award. Salim made quite an impact on the Orange in his first season with the program. He started all eight in matches in which he played on defense before suffering a season-ending injury in February. Salim scored his first goal for Syracuse in a victory against Hofstra.
Â
The Rookie of the Year award went to Deandre Kerr. Kerr led the 'Cuse with four goals and ranked second on the squad with eight points. He became the first Orange freshman to score two goals in a game since 2016 when he found the back of the net twice against Louisville on October 16. His play up front also resulted in a pair of penalty kicks for Syracuse.
Â
Sophomore Noah Singelmann is this year's Most Improved Player. He led the team with 10 points on three goals and four assists. All three totals are career highs. Singelmann posted at least one point in four of the eight matches played this spring.
Â
In addition, senior Simon Triantafillou and graduate student Max Kent were honored for their contributions off the field. Triantafillou earned the Dean Foti Award, which is presented to the Syracuse player with the most positive influence on the team's attitude, while Kent received the John Mark Andrade Award, which goes to the individual who best personifies courage, desire, humility and an unselfish devotion to his teammates.
