
Kanapatskaya's Season Comes to End in NCAA First Round

ORLANDO, Fla. – Syracuse freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya lost a three-set heartbreaker to Oklahoma State's Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Sunday in Orlando. The Minsk, Belarus native finishes with a 12-6 singles record this season.

Kanapatskaya broke serve in the opening game of the match and led 3-0 before Thamchaiwat came back to win back-to-back games to cut the lead to 3-2. Kanapatskaya won the next two on her way to winning the set, 6-3.

Thamchaiwat came back to win the second set, 6-3. Kanapatskaya dominated the early part of the third set, winning the first four games. However, Thamchaiwat rallied and won the next five games to take the lead. Kanapatskaya held serve to even the score before Thamchaiwat won the next two games to take the match and advance to the round of 32.
