
Brissett Accepts Canada National Team Invite

Former Syracuse standout Oshae Brissett is one of 21 players who have accepted invitations to attend training camp for Canada's Senior Men's National Team, which begins June 16 in Tampa, Fla.
Canada will be preparing for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, scheduled for June 29-to-July 4. Each country will play the other two teams in its group. Canada is in Group A along with Greece and China. The top two squads in each group will advance to the semifinals. The winner of the tournament earns a spot in the Tokyo Olympics.
Nick Nurse, the head coach of the Toronto Raptors, is leading Team Canada.
Brissett began his professional career with the Toronto Raptors. He played 19 games for Toronto in 2019-20 and averaged 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest. Brissett excelled in the the G-League with Raptors 905. He averaged 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds while starting 21-of-28 contents.
He signed with the Indiana Pacers in the offseason. Following a stint in the G-League, Brissett was called up by the Pacers and had a strong finish to the NBA season. In 21 games, which included 16 appearances with the first string, he averaged 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per outing. He had a season-high 31 points in the Pacers' final regular-season game at Toronto, a 125-113 decision. He posted a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) when Indiana won at Oklahoma City.
After playing through two 10-day contracts with Indiana, Brissett signed a long-term contract with the Pacers, reportedly a three-year deal.Â
Brissett owns previous international experience. He played for Canada's silver-medal winning team at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Chile. He averaged 16.4 points and 7.8 rebounds over the course of five games.
He spent two collegiate seasons at Syracuse before opting to begin his professional playing career. He was named to the 2017-18 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Freshman Team after averaging 14.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He started all 37 games of his rookie season and finished fifth among Division I performers in average minutes played (38.1). Brissett was with the starting unit for all 34 games of his sophomore campaign and averaged 12.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing.
