
Hehir Opens US Olympic Trials for Orange on Friday

Five 'Cuse alums set to compete
Martin Hehir will be the first-of-five Syracuse alumni to compete for a spot on Team USA's track and field team for the Tokyo Olympics on Friday night.
Hehir kicks off the U.S. Olympic Trials for the Orange alumni in the men's 10k final on Friday at 10:25 p.m. eastern time on NBC.
His race will be followed by Freddie Crittenden III and Jarret Eaton in the 110-meter hurdles, which begins with the first round on Friday, June 25, and Sarah Pagano and Paige Stoner competing in the women's 10,000-meter final a6 9:44 p.m. eastern on Saturday, June 26.
Hehir, a senior on the Orange's 2015 NCAA Championship cross country team, posted the seventh-fastest marathon time by an American this past winter. An All-American at 'Cuse, Hehir runs professional under the tutelage of former Orange coach Chris Fox at Reebok Boston Track Club. He is also Dr. Hehir now, after finishing his MD this spring.
Eaton was Syracuse's first NCAA track and field champion, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 2012. He has since won the 2016 U.S. Indoor Championships and was the silver medalist at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.
Crittenden III was a two-time NCAA runner-up in 2016 and 2017 in the 60-meter hurdles. He is a four-time All-American and four-time All-ACC performer with the Orange.
Stoner is a five-time ACC Champion at 'Cuse and five-time USTFCCCA All-American. She is Syracuse's top finisher ever in women's cross country and has competed in everything from the steeplechase to the marathon at the championship level.
Pagano was a USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 10,000-meters as a redshirt senior in 2014, while taking seventh at the NCAA Championships. The Ringwood, N.J. native now races professionally for adidas.
This group looks to join Katie Zaferes on Team USA in Tokyo. Zaferes, a fellow track and field alum, was announced as a representative of Team USA in the Triathlon on Wednesday. Additionally, Syracuse is expected to have multiple competitors in the Canada's Olympic Track and Field trials later in June as well.
