Orange basketball fans had a first look at the men's and women's basketball teams Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome for 'Orange Tip-Off'.Â
Otto and the Syracuse Spirit Team also joined in on the event and "Voice of the Orange" Matt Park served as master of ceremonies.
The event began with head coaches Jim Boeheim and Felisha Legette-Jack interviews where they addressed the fans and both thanked Orange Nation for the support.Â
Shooting Challenge (Women's Basketball)
Teams of three were tasked with making a layup, free throw, three-pointer and half-court shot. Freshman guard Kennedi Perkins lifted her team of Olivia Owens and Dyaisha Fair to victory when she hit the half-court shot.Â
Mixed Three-Point Contest
The Blue Team, consisted of Teisha Hyman, Asia Strong, Justin Taylor and Chris Bunch beat the Orange team (Joseph Girard III, Symir Torrence, Georgia Woolley and Dariauna Lewis) behind a 12-for-15 performance by Bunch.Â
Dunk Contest (Men's Basketball)
Peter Carey, Benny Williams, Judah Mintz and Quadir Copeland put on a show during the dunk contest. Williams won the contest but the highlight was when Copeland was assisted by the men's basketball team's Team IMPACT teammate Mason Campbell who fed him a bounce pass in the paint. The team celebrated by lifting Mason on their shoulders in celebration.Â
Fan ChallengeÂ
Syracuse student RJ Joshi took home the grand prize after making a layup, free throw, three-point shot and half court shot. Joshi received a Syracuse hat for the layup, APEX gift card for the free throw and a pair of Nike sneakers for the three-pointer. Both teams swarmed him in celebration after draining a half-court shot to bring home a 55-inch television.Â
The women's team scrimmaged for two, 10-minute halves, followed by the men's team doing their Blue vs. Orange scrimmage in the same format.Â
The night wrapped up with the student-athletes having meet-and-greet selfie stations with the fans in the backcourt.Â
