Men's Rowing Begins Fall Season at Head of the Charles Sunday
10/22/2022 3:00:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse University men's rowing team will be headed east this weekend to Cambridge, Mass., for the 57th edition of the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Orange will look to beat their impressive results from last year, where the Championship Eight (Champ 8+) placed fifth overall, and the Championship Four (Champ 4+) placed seventh overall, fifth among U.S. college crews participating.
This year, the Championship Eight entry contains the same eight oarsmen that placed fifth at the 2022 IRA National Championships in June.
The Champ 8+Â is scheduled to begin at 1:38 p.m. EST and Syracuse will be starting sixth in a field of 25 competing crews.
The Champ 4+ will look a little bit different than it did last year, but is filled with experienced oarsmen. Sophomore Sam Hobson, senior Connor Toomey and junior coxswain Michael Harris are three members of last spring's 2V8+. Set to join these three in the Championship Four will be seniors Murphy Waters and Finn Conlon.
The Orange Four will be begin their race in fourth in the starting order in a field of 17 crews. The race is slotted to go off at 1:07 p.m. EST before the Championship Eight.
