Orange Visit Wake Forest Saturday
11/14/2022 5:25:00 PM | Football
Syracuse will finish out the regular season with a pair of road games, starting Saturday at defending ACC Atlantic Division champions Wake Forest. Fans can tune in to ACC Network at 8 p.m. to catch all of the action, in what will be the second of three-straight prime time games to end the regular season
Â
The Orange and Demon Deacons have had similar seasons. Both squads had fast starts to the season but both will be looking to snap losing streaks on Saturday. For Syracuse, that will mean returning to the form it used to post six-straight wins to open the 2022 campaign.
Â
"The fan base needs to understand that we're all disappointed about what happened Saturday," 'Cuse head coach Dino Babers said about his team's loss to Florida State in the home finale last Saturday. "That's not a direct reflection on what we have represented this year. We started 6-0, we've gone 0-4... Now we have to find a way to put our best foot forward, play with our strengths and shield our weaknesses. If we do that, we may have an opportunity to feel a lot better than we did last Saturday."
Â
In order to leave North Carolina feeling good on Saturday night, the Orange will have to take down another tough challenger. Wake Forest has the second-highest scoring offense in the conference, averaging 36.6 points per game. Quarterback Sam Hartman makes the Demon Deacons go. He is second among active FBS players with 12,009 career yards passing. This season, Hartman is 191-for-307 for 2,743 yards. He has thrown for 28 touchdowns, which rank seventh in the nation.
Â
Last season, Hartman threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime in a 40-37 Wake Forest win in the JMA Wireless Dome. Two of the last three meetings and three of the 11 have been decided in overtime. Syracuse holds a 6-5 advantage in the series with the squads splitting the previous four meetings at Truist Field. The Orange will make the trek to Winston-Salem for the first time since the 2018 season.
Â
Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ACCN.
