Orange Claim Latest Matchup With Georgetown
12/10/2022 3:03:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Jesse Edwards produced 20 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead Syracuse (6-4) to a 83-64 victory against Georgetown (5-6) in the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday afternoon.
The Orange triumph came versus former BIG EAST Conference rival Georgetown and on a day when Syracuse honored Coach Jim Boeheim and Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, two of the marquee names from the league's heyday. Boeheim and Washington were formerly recognized with Ring of Honor designation, becoming the first two with ties to the men's basketball program to earn the distinction.
Edwards scored in double digits for the ninth time in 10 games and Judah Mintz added his own version of a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 assists. Joseph Girard III followed with 15 points and Benny Williams contributed 13 points for Syracuse.
WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
A dunk from reserve center Mounir Hima at the 4:14 mark in the first half put the Orange ahead for just the second time, 31-30. The slam sparked a 12-0 Orange run which pushed Syracuse's advantage to 41-30. Girard had a four-point play -- a 3-pointer plus a free throw -- that keyed the stretch.

Syracuse closed out the first half by tallying 16 of the final 20 points. Back-to-back three pointers courtesy of Girard and Chris Bell helped to push SU's lead to as high as 13 points. The first frame featured nine lead changes and two ties, but the Orange owned a 45-34 advantage going into the break.
