Mintz Career Night Sends ‘Cuse To Victory

A career-high 24-point showing by Judah Mintz pushed Syracuse to an 86-71 win against Monmouth inside the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday night. The victory marked the fourth straight for the Orange and improved their record to 7-4, while the visiting Hawks moved to 1-10.
Jesse Edwards recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Joseph Girard III (16 points), Benny Williams (13), and Maliq Brown (11) rounded out the Syracuse performers who finished the night in double-figures.
WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Syracuse put together an 8-0 scoring stretch to take the lead for good, 59-52, with 12:23 left in the contest. Mintz and Williams each scored four points in the run to help secure the Orange advantage.
WITHIN REACH
With just 11:24 left before the break, the Orange jumped in front with a 7-0 run, making it a 17-12 game. Girard started the stretch with a three-pointer off a pass from Justin Taylor and Brown closed it out with back-to-back layups.
Just a few minutes later, the Hawks sunk a pair of threes, courtesy of Jack Collins and Miles Ruth. Colins then rounded out an 8-0 stretch for Monmouth with a layup, giving the visitors a 29-26 advantage with 5:55 left on the ticker.
The Orange answered just before the intermission with eight consecutive points. Girard contributed five points, giving SU a 38-35 advantage with 54 seconds left in the half. A make from Edwards at the charity stripe sent Syracuse into the break with a 42-40 edge.
ON THE LINE
In the second half, Monmouth fouled 16 times, compared to just five for the Orange. The quartet of Edwards (5-for-7), Williams (2-for-2), Mintz (7-for-8), and Symir Torrence (2-2) each made trips to the foul line and shot a combined 84.2%, making 16-of-19 free throws throughout the back half of play.
Syracuse will be back in action inside the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday, Dec. 17, as they welcome instate-foe Cornell. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. and the game will air live on the ACC Network.
