Orange Win Electric Battle Against Boston College

Senior Joseph Girard III recorded 24 points and Syracuse (9-5, 2-1) won its ninth straight meeting with Boston College (7-7, 1-2), 79-65 in a New Year's Eve matinee in the JMA Wireless Dome.
Girard passed four players and advanced into 35th on Syracuse's career scoring list, ending the afternoon with 1,348 points. He also connected on four 3-pointers, which pulled hin into a fifth-place tie on the Orange career 3-point ledger with 249. It equaled the total Preston Shumpert accumulated from 1998-2002.
Benny Williams logged his second double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. Judah Mintz contributed 18 points and seven assists in the win.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
With Boston College clinging to a 51-49 advantage with 11:03 remaining, the Orange scored seven unanswered points. Justin Taylor started the run with a 3-pointer, Mintz added a dunk in transition and Williams contributed a jumper to put Syracuse in front for good.
WITHIN REACH
Girard sunk a 3-pointer with 10:42 left in the opening frame to close the Orange deficit against the Eagles to one point, 15-14. Symir Torrence followed with a layup that gave SU its first lead of the afternoon, 16-14, with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
After a successful jumper from Mason Madeson of the visiting Eagles, Syracuse took off on an 8-0 run. The scoring spurt extended the SU advantage to 24-17, with just 6:41 left before halftime. Girard and Mintz logged three points apiece within the stretch.
Boston College evened the playing field by executing a 7-0 run to match Syracuse, 24-24, with 4:20 remaining before the intermission. Makai Ashton-Langford brought the Eagles up to speed with five points in the run.
The Orange arranged a 12-3 run over the last 3:45 of the first half, sending the game into halftime with a 36-27 advantage. Williams accounted for over half of the spurt by recording seven points.

Boston College shuffled into the lead for the first time in the back half of play by stitching together 12 unanswered points. Devin McGlockton led the Eagles with five points and was one of four visitors to add points within the stretch. The visiting squad held a 48-46 advantage with 12:26 left in the contest.
Over the last two minutes of action, Syracuse logged eight unanswered points to lock in the win.
