THE GAME
- Syracuse opens the 2022 season and the Gary Gait era at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Dome. It'll be the first home game for Syracuse with full fan attendance in 24 months (Feb. 28, 2020).
- The game will be broadcast on ACCN with Anish Shroff '04 (PxP) and Paul Carcaterra '97 (analyst) on the call. Brian Higgins '04 (PxP) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
FAN INFORMATION
- Season and individual game tickets are available at Cuse.com/Tickets. Fans can save by purchasing both in advance.
- For $80, fans can access every home game, which remains the best value. Individual games are $15 for adults ($10 for youth) when purchased in advance, and $20 ($15 for youth) when purchased on the day of the game.
- Fans are also subject to current stadium entry protocols, which can be found here: Stadium Protocols.
THE HOLY CROSS SERIES
- Syracuse and Holy Cross will meet for the second year in a row on Saturday in the season opener.
- Last season's game against the Crusaders was a replacement in the schedule for a game that was originally canceled due to one of the Orange's opponents being in COVID-19 protocols.
- In a 15-6 win, Owen Hiltz posted the third-most assists in a single game by an Orange freshman (5) ever, finishing with a goal and five assists.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Holy Cross has the benefit of already having a game under its belt, but the Crusaders fell 16-9 at Providence in the opener.
- Jayce Lambert led the team with four points (3-1) in that game.
- Holy Cross has one of the nation's top defensemen in Chris Conlin. Conlin has 36 caused turnovers in his last 13 games (which is the entirety of the 2020 and 2021 seasons for the Crusaders). His nearly three caused turnovers per game is tops nationally over that span.
AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- Syracuse is 116-80-2 all-time against the nine current members of the Patriot League.
- The Orange will play Holy Cross and Army from the Patriot League this season. The Orange also faced Loyola in a closed scrimmage last week.
- 'Cuse boasts a 49-12-1 mark against Colgate, 27-41 record against Army, 9-19-1 record vs. Navy, 8-0 record vs. Bucknell, 3-2 record against Lehigh, a 1-0 record against Holy Cross and a 19-6 record against Loyola.
ORANGE IN OPENERS
- Syracuse owns an all-time record of 81-21 in season-opening games.
- The Orange lost to Army 18-11 in last year's opener.
- Since the Dome opened in 1980, Syracuse is 26-3 in season openers that take place at home.
- The Syracuse women never lost a season opener under Gary Gait (14-0) during his tenure as the women's lacrosse head coach.
THE GARY ERA
- Lacrosse legend Gary Gait returns to the program that he helped win three NCAA titles as a player, to be the fifth Roy D. Simmons Jr. Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Syracuse University in program history this spring.
- The Hall of Fame player led the Orange women's team to the NCAA Championship game in 2021.
- He's won everywhere he's been. His career includes 10 NCAA titles as a player and assistant coach, three NLL titles, three MLL Championships, three Mann Cups, a Heritage Cup and an ILF World Championship
BLUE JAYS AND MAROONS
- For the first time on record, only one member of the Orange's on-field coaching staff is a Syracuse alum. This is the fewest 'Cuse alums on staff since the program began hiring full-time assistants.
- Pat March was the first non-Syracuse grad in a full-time on the coaching staff since BJ Ohara was hired as an assistant coach in 2002, when he joined the program in the fall of 2019. March is a Roanoke alum, and started his 10-year coaching career there.
- Johns Hopkins grad and legendary player Dave Pietramala was tabbed as the Orange's defensive coordinator this past fall.
- TD Ierlan, who played at Yale, Denver and Albany in his career, joins the team as the volunteer assistant.
- Roy Simmons III is the longest tenured member of the staff, remaining in his director of operations role.
THE LOUD HOUSE IS BACK
- For the first time in 24 months, the Syracuse lacrosse program will welcome fans back to the Dome without a capacity restriction.
- Last season, only four of the Orange's nine games had fans of any kind. Three offered limited student attendance, while one had limited allotment for parents/families.
- Syracuse has led the nation in attendance nearly yearly over the last-40 years since the construction of the Dome. Should trends continue, this would be the first season since 2018 that Syracuse can complete without attendance interruptions. In 2019, the Orange's home game against Duke was moved to Cicero-North Syracuse High School due to attendance conflicts with the building, playing just one true home game after March 16. 2020 was shortened due to COVID after just four games and 2021 had no attendance larger than 650 due to building capacity restrictions for public health reasons. Only Brendan Curry, Owen Seebold, Brett Kennedy, Lucas Quinn, Tucker Dordevic, Nick DiPietro, Dami Oladunmoye, Jacob Buttermore, Brett Barlow, Grant Murphy and Jake Phaup have experienced playing in the building for a 'normal' season.
A WIN AGAINST HOLY CROSS WOULD...
- Be the first win of the Gary Gait era at Syracuse. Syracuse has only had five coaches in its 107 year history, the last three (Roy Simmons Sr., Roy Simmons Jr., and John Desko) each came away victorious in their opener. Laurie Cox lost to Hobart 9-1 in 1916, in what was Syracuse's first ever lacrosse game.
- Be Gary Gait's 15th-straight home opening victory as a head coach, including his 14-0 record with the SU women.
- Be the program's 925th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve Syracuse to 82-21 in season openers.
TEN BELOW
- Syracuse has won 65-straight games when holding opponents to under 10 goals in a game.
- 45 of those 65 games have come since the start of the 2015 season, including a high of 11 in 2016.
- The last time Syracuse failed to win when keeping its foe to single digits was on April 28, 2012, when the Orange fell at Notre Dame, 8-6.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
- Since joining the ACC, the Orange is 54-15 versus non-conference opponents, including a 50-10 mark in regular-season, non-league contests.
DOME-INATION
- Syracuse is 254-43 (.858) in the Carrier Dome since it began playing the majority of its home games there in 1981.
- The Orange finished 5-2 in the Dome in 2019, 4-0 in 2020 and is 5-3 this season.
- 'Cuse has won 39 of its last-50 home games.
