The Sports Media Center at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, in conjunction with the Syracuse Department of Athletics, is launching 44 FILMS. The project is focused on short form non-fiction narrative filmmaking that puts the students at the forefront of every aspect of production, with the guidance of faculty and professional staff.
Â
"This collaboration continues the excellent partnership with Newhouse and further supports our efforts to create the best learning experiences for our students while sharing the inspirational stories of our alumni, students, coaches, and staff," said Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack.
Â
"The launch of 44 Films marks an important step in our growing collaboration with Syracuse University Athletics," says Newhouse dean Mark J. Lodato. This is a wonderful example of the quality work our students can produce, and I'm grateful to our faculty and their counterparts at Athletics for championing this important initiative."
Â
A selected group of students will lead the projects from ideation to final distribution as a collective, with support from the Sports Media Center faculty, including Jordan Kligerman, Visiting Assistant Professor, and Olivia Stomski, Director of the Sports Media Center and professor of practice, and Department of Athletics staff members.
Â
44 Films will produce up to eight documentary shorts during the 2021-22 academic year, and potential "specials" that work in conjunction with the films. The cinematic style documentary shorts will show the diversity of Syracuse University Athletics from a student-athlete, coaching staff and historical perspective.
