5 Things to Know: Syracuse vs. Army
2/28/2022 2:49:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
Syracuse hosts Army in a midweek matinee on Wednesday. Here are five things to know about the matchup.
1. Always Up For A Challenge
Syracuse historically plays one of the nation's most difficult schedules, and that's no different this year as the team heads into its third-straight game vs. a Top-15 opponent.
This is the 10th-straight season (the COVID-shortened 2020 season excluded) that 'Cuse has played at least one stretch of three-or-more consecutive games against opponents in the top-15 of the USILA Poll.
'Cuse has 10 games against ranked opponents on its schedule currently.
2. Start Fast
Syracuse has been plagued by slow starts in its last two outings, falling behind 5-0 vs. Maryland and 8-1 vs. Virginia and not being able to overcome either deficit. The good news for the Orange is that the winner of the Syracuse vs. Army series has overcome a four-or-more goal deficit in three of the last-four meetings.
In 2018 and 2020, the Orange erased early Black Knights' leads of five and four goals, respectively, and in 2021, the Cadets rallied from a 6-1 'Cuse advantage to win 18-11.

4. Workin' Wednesdays
This is the first time Syracuse has played on a Wednesday since the 2017 season in a win at Hobart and the first time 'Cuse has hosted a Wednesday game since 2014.
The Orange defeated Hobart in 2016 and 2017 matchups on the road, and beat Binghamton 10-8 in 2014, which was the last home Wednesday contest for the Orange.
5. Double Dip
The Orange play two games in five days this week, when Syracuse hosts Army (Wednesday) and Hobart (Sunday). It's the tightest turnaround for a 'Cuse team since 2019, when SU hosted Hobart on a Tuesday following a Saturday road game at Notre Dame.
The second game ended up as a 17-5 win at Boswell Field, which turned out to be the Orange's largest margin of victory for the entire season.
