Orange Draw Illini In ACC/Big 10 Challenge

Syracuse will play at Illinois on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the 2022 ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The 24th event, featuring 14 ACC squads versus 14 Big Ten teams, was announced on Friday.

Syracuse-Illinois Series Notes

Illinois has captured two of the three previous meetings with Syracuse.
The Orange won the most recent encounter, a 75-64 victory in the Dome on Dec. 27, 1995.
The Fighting Illini claimed the first pairing, 64-61, during the 1976-77 campaign.
Illinois won an NCAA Tournament matchup with Syracuse in 1989, 89-86.

Syracuse defeated Indiana in the Dome, 112-110 in two overtimes, in the squad's ACC/Big Ten Challenge game last season.

The annual matchup of Alliance rivals features 14 games which will air on ESPN's networks and be available to stream via the ESPN app. Game times and broadcast networks will be announced at a later date.

Since the start of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in 1999, the ACC holds a 12-8-3 advantage in the event and is 144-121 in Challenge games.

Four matchups feature a pair of 2022 NCAA Tournament teams: Ohio State at Duke, Rutgers at Miami, North Carolina at Indiana, and Michigan State at Notre Dame.

Illinois was 23-10 last season and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. After defeating Chattanooga, the Fighting Illini were defeated by fifth-seeded Houston, 68-53. Brad Underwood has completed five seasons as head coach at Illinois and has guided the club to a 94-66 record in back-to-back NCAA appearances during that time.

Syracuse was 16-17 last winter, the program's first losing season since the 1968-69 squad finished 9-16. Guard Joseph Girard III and center Jesse Edwards, each a senior, represent Syracuse's returning starters.
