A program-record three student-athletes are members of the 2021-22 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team honors. Graduate student Neli Casares-Maher earned the honor for the second consecutive year, while graduate student Paris Woods and sophomore Angel Jasso made the team for the first time. Syracuse has had two student-athletes earn the honor four times since the Orange joined the ACC in 2013-14.
Â
A 2022 Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team selection, Casares-Maher led the Orange in home runs (13), RBI (38), runs scored (37) and games played (47), and was second in batting average (.336). Her 13 home runs ranked 10th in the ACC this season and her two against Niagara tied for the second-best single-game total in the league. The shortstop is the third player in Syracuse history to earn ACC All-Academic Team recognition twice in a career, joining Alexa Romero and Maddi Doane. Romero earned the honor three times. A native of Orange, Calif., Casares-Maher earned her undergraduate degree in sociology.
Â
An outfielder, Jasso became the first player in Orange history to hit for the cycle when she accomplished the feat against Southern in the second game of the season. She led the Orange in hits (50), stolen bases (21), batting average (.365), tied for the lead in triples (3), and was fourth in games played (46). Jasso's 21 stolen bases ranked fifth in the ACC and her 15 doubles was seventh. Jasso, who hails from Angleton, Texas, is majoring in health and exercise science.
Â
Woods tied for the team lead in triples with three, was fourth in runs scored (22) and batting average (.305), and fifth in hits (29) and games played (44). The outfielder who is from Boulder, Colo. earned her degree in television, radio and film at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
