8/25/2022 10:56:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Syracuse (2-1-0) scored four unanswered goals, including three in the first half, and went on to defeat Lafayette (0-3-0), 4-1, at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Junior Kate Murphy led the Orange by scoring the first goal and assisting on the second. Four different players found the back of the net for Syracuse.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
Murphy's first collegiate goal broke upon a scoreless game. Attempting a corner kick, Murphy's drive hooked into the net to put the Orange up 1-0 just 15:32 into the contest. Murphy then played a role in what turned out to be the game winner. Another corner kick from Murphy was re-directed by redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey, who headed the ball past Lafayette goalkeeper Natalie Neumann, and Syracuse led, 2-0.
THE ORANGE ATTACK CONTINUES:
Syracuse managed one more tally before the intermission. Freshman Maya McDermott fed sophomore Pauline Machtens, maneuvered to the left and then scored on a left-footed drive.
RAUCH AND RUPERT TEAM UP
Sophomore Ashley Rauch carried toward the Leopard goal and slid a perfectly timed pass to freshman Anna Rupert who finished the play with her first collegiate goal. It gave the Orange a 4-0 advantage at the 65:48 mark.
LEOPARDS CLOSE OUT SCORING
Lafayette managed to get on the board when its corner kick went in off a Syracuse player with 10:25 remaining in the contest.
