Syracuse is Fifth in Directors' Cup Fall Standings

The 2022 NCAA Division I National Champion Syracuse men's soccer team was one of five Orange teams to advance to the postseason last fall, leading to Syracuse's fifth-place finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I Fall Standings. Men's soccer, field hockey, football and men's and women's cross country all contributed to Syracuse's Directors' Cup points. The Orange are one of eight Atlantic Coast Conference programs in the Top 20. The Big Ten and the Pac 12 each have four in the Top 20, while the SEC has two and the Big 12 has one.

Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre guided the Orange men's soccer team to the program's first National Championship in December. 'Cuse beat Indiana in penalty kicks, 7-6, after the score was tied, 2-2, following two overtime periods. McIntyre and his staff earned the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year after the best season in school history. The Orange won a program-record 19 matches, the ACC Tournament title, and the regular-season division title. Forward Levonte Johnson was a finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in collegiate soccer.

The Orange field hockey team scored Directors' Cup point with its return to the Elite 8 for the second year in a row and the fifth time in nine years. Syracuse lost to Maryland in a shootout, 3-2, following a 2-2 score after two overtime periods. Quirine Comans and Charlotte de Vries earned All-America First Team honors and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof garnered second team All-America recognition. Head coach Ange Bradley closed her Syracuse tenure by leading the Orange to their 13th NCAA Tournament. The 16th-year 'Cuse head coach announced her retirement following the season. Her Syracuse resume includes the 2015 National Championship and four Final Fours.

Head coach Dino Babers guided the Orange to the postseason as Syracuse earned an invitation to the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. It was the third time the Orange have played in the Pinstripe Bowl and the 27th bowl game appearance in program history. The Orange lost to Minnesota, 28-20. Tight end Oronde Gadsden II led a group of eight players collecting All-ACC honors. Gadsden earned first team recognition. Running back Sean Tucker (second-team RB/third-team all-purpose), offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron (second team), linebackers Mikel Jones (third team) and Marlowe Wax (honorable mention), and defensive backs Garrett Williams, Ja'Had Carter (honorable mention) and Duce Chestnut (honorable mention) also earned all-conference honors.

The men's cross country squad capped the season with its best performance at the NCAA meet in six seasons with a 12th-place finish. Nathan Lawler paced the team at the NCAA Championship placing 46th. Northeast Region Coach of the Year Brien Bell guided the team to a return to the top-10 of the national polls, its highest rank since 2018. The team won the NCAA Northeast Region Championship for the eighth time in the last nine times the event has been held.

The Orange women's cross country team had their best NCAA Championship finish since 2015, taking 23rd. Sophomore Savannah Roark had a historic day, becoming the first Orange All-American since Paige Stoner in 2017. She finished 23rd overall, which was the second-best individual finish in women's program history. Syracuse finished second at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
