SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange wrapped up December with 6-1 record, thanks to a 79-65 New Year's Eve triumph against Boston College. Louisville has two wins under its belt this season as the Cardinals took down Western Kentucky (94-83) and Florida A&M (61-55). The Cardinals lost in their most recent outing, an 86-63 decision at #19 Kentucky on Dec. 31.

Louisville holds a hefty 19-11 lead in the all-time series, which reaches back to the 1964-65 season. SU has captured three of the last four gatherings. The most recent SU win was a 92-69 victory on Feb. 5, 2022.Â

Boston College led the Orange by two with just over 10 minutes left to play. Freshman guard Justin Taylor stepped up in a pivotal moment by nailing a 3-pointer. Taylor's shot put the Orange ahead,and the squad cruised to victory.Â

Senior guard Joseph Girard III put up 24 points against the Eagles. Sophomore forward Benny Williams recorded 16 points and a personal-best 11 boards en route to his second double-double of the season. Freshman guard Judah Mintz added 18 points and dished out seven assists. Mintz's performance earned him his third ACC Rookie of the Week honor in four weeks.

Girard (15.9 ppg.) heads the offensive efforts for SU. Mintz leads ACC freshman in scoring (15.8), assist (4.2), and rebound average (2.29). Senior center Jesse Edwards continues to contribute a double-double (14.1 ppg.-10.9 rpg.) and leads the league in defensive rebound average (7.93) and blocks per game (3.00).

Senior guard El Ellis serves as the Cardinal's front man with a squad-best 17.5 ppg, which slots him fourth in the ACC in scoring average. Sophomore forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield holds the ground defensively with 6.1 boards per contest.Â

Senior Joseph Girard III is one of 20 players named to the 2023 Jerry West Award watch list, which is annually presented to the top shooting guard in Division I college basketball. Orange fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting for each of the three rounds. The list will be narrowed down to 10 in January, five in February, and the five finalists will be presented to Jerry West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected in March. MCNAMARA AND WARRICK JERSEY RETIREMENT
Twenty years after playing a major role in Syracuse's first NCAA Basketball Championship, Gerry McNamara '06 and Hakim Warrick '05 will have their Orange jerseys hoisted to the Dome rafters. The jersey retirements will take place on Sunday, March 4 when Syracuse hosts Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome.

20TH ANNIVERSARY OF '03 CHAMPIONSHIP
Syracuse University Athletics will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the men's basketball program's 2003 NCAA Championship throughout the 2022-23 season, culminating with a reunion at the March 4 contest with Wake Forest. Members of the 2002-03 national title team have been invited to return to Syracuse for planned activities the weekend of March 3-5, 2023. The Orange are scheduled to host Wake Forest on Saturday, March 4, in the final regular-season contest of the campaign. Those from the 2002-03 squad who can return, will be recognized at the game.
