Women’s Tennis Battles Past BU

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team had their collective hands full against Boston University on Sunday at Drumlins Country Club, but prevailed to win 6-1 after battling through close sets all day
The Orange (2-0) led off with a doubles point, picking up wins in two of the three opening matches. Zeynep Erman and Miyuka Kimoto cruised to a 6-1 win while Ines Fonte and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya won the second flight 6-3.
Two singles matches needed an extra set as Kanapatskaya battled back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. Kimoto trailed in both of her top flight singles sets, including a 4-2 deficit in the second, before rallying to win the point 6-4, 6-4. Erman won the second flight 6-3, 3-2 after her opponent retired in the middle of the second set.
In fifth-flight singles, Polina Kozyreva swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 while Fonte grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win in the sixth flight.
Syracuse returns to Drumlins on Friday, January 27 for an in-state clash with Cornell. First serve is set for 3 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
