Following a tightly-contested first half, visiting Virginia broke open the match with three goals and claimed a 4-0 triumph against Syracuse at the SU Soccer Stadium.
The Cavaliers improved to 8-3-6 overall and 3-3-4 in the ACC. The Orange completed their season with a 2-14-2, 0-9-1 record.
THE FIRST-HALF BATTLE
The two squads played evenly for most of the initial 45 minutes. The Cavaliers broke the scoreless tie with 6:08 left before the intermission. Jill Flammia scored her third goal of the campaign and Virginia went into the break ahead, 1-0. The Cavaliers had a 13-3 shot advantage in the opening half.
VIRGINIA INCREASES THE PRESSURE
The momentum the Cavaliers built at the end of the first period continued after halftime. Virginia earned a penalty kick and Maggie Cagle took advantage with her eighth goal of 2023. The tally came at the 55:28 mark.
Virginia put the contest out of reach for Syracuse by scoring twice in a six-minute span. At 73:37, Meredith McDermott found the net for her eight of the year. Talia Staude closed out the scoring at 79:38, scoring her third of the campaign on a header off of Alexis Theoret's corner kick.

NOTABLE NOTES:
- Syracuse sophomore Shea Vanderbosch added five saves to her season total, giving her 129 for the fall. It represented the second-best, single-season total in school history. Katie Karlander owns the record (138) which she established in the 2000 campaign.
- Vanderbosch and junior Kylen Grant played every minute (1,620) of Syracuse's 18 games.Â
- In a season hampered by numerous injuries, Syracuse had six players start every game: Grant, Vanderbosch, sophomore Alyssa Abramson, redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey, sophomore Grace Gillard and sophomore Ashley Rauch.
- Flurey finished the year as Syracuse's top scorer, totaling six goals and three assists.
