
'Cuse Completes Day One at ITA Northeast Regionals

BOSTON, Mass. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team travels to Cambridge, Massachusetts for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Harvard University (Oct. 6-8).
The first day of competition at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships saw first round byes for the Orange. All 'Cuse competitors in the singles competition (Anastasia Sysoeva, Polina Kozyreva, Shiori Ito and Ines Fonte) moved on to the second round and are set to play today, Oct. 7. The Orange have two pairs represented in the doubles event. Both Miyuka Kimoto/Sysoeva and Kozyreva/Fonte received first round byes. The two pairs won both of their matches in the second round, Sysoeva/Kimoto defeated their opponents 8-3 and Kozyreva/Fonte won their match 8-2. The duos are set to continue play in the tournament today, Oct. 7.
At the ITA Women's All-American Championships this past week, doubles pairs Shiori Ito/Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Ines Fonte/Miyuka Kimoto matched up against tough opponents in the qualifying round last weekend. Ito and Kanapatskaya collected the only win for the Orange in the doubles event. Miyuka Kimoto represented the Orange in the singles event and found success in her first match, progressing to the round of 64 in the tournament before losing to finish play for 'Cuse in Cary, N.C.
'Cuse has found a lot of success at the Northeast Regionals over the years. Most recently, duo Fonte/Kanapatskaya took the doubles title, qualifying for the ITA Super Regionals in 2022. Duo Ito/Kimoto claimed the same title in 2021.
Syracuse will continue tournament play at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships today, October 7 in Boston.
