As #5 Syracuse prepares to open the season against #4 Northwestern on Saturday in the JMA Wireless Dome, we begin our Q&A series with senior Bianca Chevarie.
When and why did you start playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse when I was 7 or 8 years old. I was playing boys hockey at the time and my head coach was the boys box lacrosse head coach for the summer and said since I liked playing hockey so much, I might like lacrosse as well.
Â
Why did you decide to come to Syracuse?
I think it was the culture. When I came and visited, I met a lot of the team, and I was there just when they were hanging out in the locker room and got to talk with a lot of them. Just the camaraderie between them was everything that I wanted within the team.
Â
What goals do you have this year for you and the team?
My sophomore year we went to the national championship game. We all want to get back there. That's where I want to be. I want to end my senior year with a national championship.
Â
What piece of advice would you give a young lacrosse player?
Keep working hard – even when people aren't watching. That's when you develop the most. The more that you do when you are on your own, on and off the field, that's when you develop as a person.
Â
What's your favorite sports team?
I'm a big Buffalo Bills fan and I'm also a very big Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Â
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would want to read minds.
Â
Which teammate is the best dressed?
I would say Megan Carney. She has some good gameday outfits, especially shoes.
Â
Best dancer?
Tate Paulson
Â
Who is your funniest teammate?
I think it's a tie between Hallie Simkins and Savannah Sweitzer.
Â
Which of your teammates are you most excited to see play this season?
I'm super excited to see Emma Tyrrell and Sierra Cockerille, who are both coming back from injuries. I know everyone is excited to see them play and I can't wait to see what they do this season.
