Syracuse (16-10, 9-6) welcomes Duke (18-8, 9-6) to the JMA Wireless Dome for a league matchup on Saturday, Feb. 18, in Syracuse, N.Y., at 6:00 p.m.Â
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange look to bolster their hot streak to four straight after capturing its first ranked win of the season against #23/22 NC State on Tuesday night. Duke snapped a two-game losing skid with a, 68-64, win against Notre Dame at Cameron Indoor Stadium earlier in the week.Â
SYRACUSE-DUKE SERIES
Duke has secured 14 out of the 20 total pairings in the all-time series against Syracuse, and the Blue Devils are winners of seven straight against the Orange. SU has been unable to top Duke since Jan. 14, 2019, where the Orange bested the #1/2 Blue Devils In overtime, 95-91. Â
LAST TIME OUT
All five starters contributed double-digit scoring efforts in a 75-72 Syracuse triumph versus #23/22 NC State this past Tuesday. Freshman guard Judah Mintz scored a game-high 20 points to go along with nine assists, senior center Jesse Edwards logged his second straight double-double (11th of the season) (18 points and 16 rebounds), and senior guard Joseph Girard III added 14 points. Freshman forwards Chris Bell (11) and Maliq Brown (10) rounded out the Orange who finished the night in double-digits.
ORANGE LEADERS
The trio of Girard (16.9 ppg.), Mintz (15.6 ppg.), and Edwards (14.3 ppg.) lead the offensive efforts for Syracuse. Girard ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring average and fourth in 3-point average (2.85). Edwards is the top shot blocker in the conference (2.9 bpg.) and ranks second on the glass with a 10.4 rebounding average. Mintz is the ACC's leading swiper (2.0 spg.) and the top-scoring freshman In the league.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Freshman center Kyle Filipowski (15.1 ppg.) leads the Duke offense and has collared 11 double-doubles this season, the most by any freshman in the country. Freshman forward Dariq Whitehead has made nine of his last 13 three-point attempts (69.2%) and is shooting nearly 40% from long-range this season. In the backcourt, junior guard Jeremy Roach is riding a hot streak averaging 15.3 points over the last five games.
MCNAMARA AND WARRICK JERSEY RETIREMENT
Twenty years after playing a major role in Syracuse's first NCAA Basketball Championship, Gerry McNamara '06 and Hakim Warrick '05 will have their Orange jerseys hoisted to the Dome rafters. The jersey retirements will take place on Sunday, March 4 when Syracuse hosts Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome.
20TH ANNIVERSARY OF '03 CHAMPIONSHIP
Syracuse University Athletics will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the men's basketball program's 2003 NCAA Championship throughout the 2022-23 season, culminating with a reunion at the March 4 contest with Wake Forest. Members of the 2002-03 national title team have been invited to return to Syracuse for planned activities the weekend of March 3-5, 2023. The Orange are scheduled to host Wake Forest on Saturday, March 4, in the final regular-season contest of the campaign. Those from the 2002-03 squad who can return, will be recognized at the game.
ORANGE OUT
Syracuse followers attending the game are encouraged to participate in the Orange Out by wearing Orange. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the game. The JMA Wireless Dome will be open to spectators starting at 4:00 p.m.
