As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Boston College in the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday, Feb. 5, (2 p.m., ACC Network Extra), for Equality & Inclusion Day, we continue our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with assistant coach Khyreed Carter.
Who was your childhood role model?
KC:Â My dad was my childhood role model.
What has your coaching experience with Coach Jack been like?
KC: It has been amazing. I have been with Coach Jack since I was 24 years old and she has been patient and allowed me to grow, she has pushed me, challenged me and treated my like family since day one.
What is your favorite part of coaching at Syracuse?
KC:Â My favorite part of coaching at SU is playing in these intense environments vs. some of the best teams in the country. Every game is tough and presents new challenges.
What would you be doing if you weren't coaching basketball?
KC:Â I went to college to become a sports broadcaster/writer so I probably would have done something in that field.
What excites you about working with this team?
KC:Â Watching these young ladies grow and mature. We put this team together really fast and from many different places, so watching them grow into their authenticity is amazing to be a part of.
If you could travel anywhere for vacation, where would you go?
KC:Â I haven't been to Asia or Africa yet so either China or Ghana.
What is one thing you have learned during your time coaching with Coach Jack?
KC:Â How to own it when you are not right. We are in a society where everyone wants to be right all the time or perfect, but with Coach Jack she makes it okay to say "I messed up or I wasn't right" and it's a cool thing.
What's your favorite movie and why?
KC: Too many to choose from but I'm a big documentaries guy.
Where do you want to be in the next 5-10 years?
KC:Â Cutting down a National Championship net for Syracuse University.
How would you describe this team in three words?
KC:Â Resilient, tough, growing.
