
Tennis Loses to No. 1 North Carolina

No. 29 Syracuse tennis lost to No. 1 North Carolina, 6-1, inside the Drumlins Country Club on Sunday morning.
The Tar Heels (22-0, 7-0 ACC) won the doubles point in 26 minutes, with Reese Brantmeier/Elizabeth Scotty (UNC) taking down Miyuka Kimoto/Zeynep Erman, 6-0. With Ines Fonte out today, the win already put the visitors ahead by one point, but Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig closed out Viktoriya Kanapatskaya/Shiori Ito, 6-1, in the final doubles match.
In singles play, Kanapatskaya lost to No. 15 Brantmeier (UNC) in straight sets (6-1,6-0), and Erman played No. 1 Crawley (UNC) well, losing 6-3, 6-1. Erman's loss sealed the duel for the Tar Heels, but the remaining three matches were played out.
Polina Kozyreva was defeated for just the third time all season, dropping her games, 6-2, 6-2, to Anika Yarlagadda (UNC). Ito played Reilly Tran tough, ultimately losing 6-4, 6-4. In the last match of the day, Kimoto salvaged a point for Syracuse (11-5, 4-5 ACC), defeating No. 18 Abbey Forbes (UNC) 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.
The 'Cuse will hit the road for its final two weeks of the regular season. SU will face NC State next Friday (March 31) and Wake Forest on Sunday (April 2).
